South Hero Rec. Park
The South Hero Recreation Park is a foot trail through a wetland area
that starts from the Folsom School parking lot on South Street.
In 2007,
educators & students at Folsom School helped the Commission design
the usage for the 8-acre plot the town had recently purchased as a
Recreation Park. Students helped assess the community and conducted
surveys around town to see what recreational activities the community
believed the town needed. They presented the results at a town meeting,
along with a model of a completed park they built to scale with
community volunteers and design experts. Together with the help of
several Eagle Scouts, the first phase of the boardwalk was completed in
2009. The second phase of clearing & improving the longer loop trail
was completed in 2012.
The park receives frequent use by Folsom students for various
educational projects: studying soil types, water quality, invertebrates
& other animals. In the winter, the trail is used by the PE class
for snowshoeing & for team-building activities.
