June Meeting Minutes
Meeting Minutes – South Hero Recreation Commission
June 7, 2018, 7:00pm White’s Beach
1) Review of May meeting minutes: All approved.
2) Public Input: None.
3) Treasurer’s Report and finalization of budget expenditures: Around $2200 left in budget.
a) Roy Marsh Trail Signs – $149.92, ordered and will be here soon.
b) Subsidized State Park Passes – Erin has reached out for referrals from Folsom school and the Parent Child Center; two of the ten purchased have been distributed to families. Erin will follow up with advertising in Front Porch Forum. First come, first served basis.
c & d) Use for part of matching funds for Bike & Pedestrian (or other) grants being submitted in the next fiscal year for trails development OR purchase and install a swinging bench at White’s Beach. Discussion – Typically, matching grant funds come from the Town budget as the project is a Town development project, rather than a specific recreation program. This may be particularly true for some of the trails grants as they will not be recreation grants, but rather community access and safety focused grants (Bike& Ped is a good example). However, trails work is a high priority for the commission at this time and if the Selectboard is concerned about the cost of matching grants, most felt the desire to prioritize trails funding over the swinging bench. Outcome: Dave and Erin will attend the Monday, June 11th Selectboard meeting to gauge support and report out. Meanwhile, Stefan will investigate costs for installation of the swinging bench. Final decision will be made via e-mail in time for the June 14th deadline.
e) Heavier anchors and rope for the buoys at White’s Beach (which have blown onto the beach) – Carol will purchase and install, with a little help from her friends (family, I know, but the Beatles reference was more fun)…
4) Previous Business:
a) Advertise scholarship money available to SH residents for recreation programs in other Island towns – Karin to post on FPF.
b) Bike for the Lake event, June 16th – Good luck, Dave! $75 donation to ride, proceeds go toward clean water initiatives.
c)Memorial Recreation Fund – Stefan will distribute Don Peach’s letter to all for feedback.
d) County wide calendar on internet – Stefan will follow up with Mike.
