June Meeting Minutes

Minutes,  Recreation Commission monthly meeting
Thursday, June 16, 2016
1) Minutes of May meeting approved
2) New Business
       A) Fall Soccer … Dave will contact coaching candidates
3) Old Business
       A) Safe Bikers reward citations … Stefan will print up cards awarding small creamie from Allenholm Farm to be distributed to Commissioners. Dave will contact Gail Horne to see if Keeler Bay Variety will repeat with cards for popsicles.
       B) Flashing Crossing Signal … have been ordered and should arrive next week. Town Highway Department are aware. Karin will double check with State (Jon Kaplan) regarding signage.
       C) Bleachers for Folsom soccer field … presently on pallets at Allenholm Farm. Work party to be scheduled for assembling and placing  at school. Dave will contact Steve Berard.
       D) White’s Beach …
             i) Signs …
                    a) In light of a recent episode involving threats … Prohibiting firearms may not be an option ( legal opinion from League of Cities and Towns says we could prohibit discharge of weapon but not possession). Present sign states treat park respectfully but no specific ban.
                   b) Wooden pallets have been dumped at the beach recently, presumably to use for bonfires. Tom will ask the Sheriff about relevance to violation of dumping ordinance (nails from the pallets remain after the fire, creating hazard to beach goers).
ii) Permission to add Sand at the beach was rejected by State Environmental Agency and Army Corps of Engineers because it discharges into the lake.
       E) Need-based Scholarships for Activities in other towns in Grand Isle County. Method for prioritizing…  Dave and Carol will continue to work on form to be used for basing awards for next meeting. Should be presented to Selectboard.
       H) South Hero Trails
            i) Walking Trails on East Shore Winery land … Mowed trails were approved by East Shore Vinyards and the Land Trusts … specific route to be determined. Parking area at old town dump was rejected by adjacent land owners including East Shore Vinyards, thus making proposed connecting trails to the dump site irrelevant.
ii) Connector Trail between Landon Farm Trails and Round Pond Trails has been mowed and used.
4) Other Business
     A) Annual Kid Tryathalon will be held Sunday, August 28
              Dave … contact Sheriff
              Stefan … posters
Karin … snacks, articles for FPF and Islander
