August Meeting Minutes
South Hero Recreation Commission Meeting – Monday, August 17, 2015
Members Present: Carol, Stefan, Mike, Dave, Karin, Tom
1) Approval / Corrections last minutes – Minutes from 7/20/15 meeting approved.
2) Public Input – None.
3) Treasury Report – No change since last report.
4) Old Business
A) 2015 Kids’ Tryathalon — August 23 (Sunday)
To do list:
Shirts: Karin to drop off to Dave
Soccer tents: Karin and Nancy to drop off
Refreshments: Nancy will drop off Sunday a.m.
Forms: Dave will bring
FPF Friday notice: Karin
Staff on Sunday: Mike, Dave, Stefan, Eoana, Carol – meet at 9:00
Volunteer Coordination: Karin to contact Terry Robinson and Quinn Pidgeon
B) Fall soccer program – Dave will connect Tristan and Shevanne from GI to facilitate program initiation.
C) Trails on the new winery at Landon Farm – Karin constructed a map based on discussions with Dave, Karin and Emily Alger of SHLT. Karin will forward to all members for review. Next step: Emily will coordinate a meeting with Vermont Land Trust.
D) Swim program report – Carol was present all days but one. Parents and children were positive about the program. Chip Porter distributed a questionnaire for parents and is collating data. Mike will follow up with payment to YMCA.
E) SHRP exercise equipment installation – Carol will enlist volunteers at the Tryathlon, coordinate for September 12th
F) VTrans grant for flashing beacons at crosswalk on route 2 – Karin submitted, should hear back from the state this month.
G) White’s Beach
i) swimming area floats – adjust as needed at Tryathlon
ii) sand – Dave will organize.
iii) placement of new grills, old tables – Stefan, Mike and Dave to coordinate this week.
H) Citations for Safe Biking – Dave distributed more to members.
6) Other Business
A) Roy Marsh Trail – Stefan uses about once a week, noticed surface could use improvement. Group discussed motivation for seeking approval from the state, such as safety due to South Street widening and repaving work and the plans for a walking trail system around the town. Karin to call Mike Wichrowski at Vermont Fish and Wildlife to investigate whether state is open to surface improvement.
