2019 North Hero Summer Camps

There are a variety of summer camps organized by North Hero Rec. & held at Camp Ingalls & Knight’s Point State Park in North Hero that we highly recommend & help promote.

PRESCHOOL NATURE CAMP (ages 3-5)

August 19, 21, 23, from 9am to noon

Enjoy the forests & fields at Camp Ingalls. The day will begin with outside play & games in the Longhouse. Learning through guided exploration, children will engage in hikes, stories, music, dance & art. Daily themes are linked to the above activities. Together we will prepare healthy snacks. Limit of 12.

NATURE CAMP
(ages 6-9)

July 8 – 12, from 9am to 1pm

We will focus on the different habitats at Camp Ingalls & Butternut Hill. We will hike the trails, explore the fields & lakeshore of this unique town park. We will learn about the habitats through hands-on investigations as well as arts & crafts. Campers will record their observations in their journals & will play nature & focused team building games. One full day will be spent at the lake. Together we will prepare healthy snacks. Limit of 16.

GREEN MTN HEROES CAMP (ages 10-12)

July 29 – Aug 2, from 9am to 1pm

What kind of skills did the Allen family need to know when the Green Mountain Boys were off making history? Campers will have the chance to explore Colonial skills as well as those of the Abenaki. Campers will make a birch bark container, use a minnow trap to catch fish, learn to bake bread, make butter, build a fire, use a compass, build a shelter & more! Campers will explore a whole other way of life while developing confidence & independence through the mastery of new skills. Snacks will be part of hte program… eating foods we make! We will have a culminating family celebration on the last day of camp.  Limit of 16.

LET’S ACT IT OUT!
(ages 8-11)

August 5 – 16, M-F from 9am to 1pm

Calling all creative & energetic kids for the 2nd annual “Let’s Act It Out” camp. Join us at Camp Ingalls where participants will select & adapt their own play, develop characters, design & create scenery all in preparation for a culminating performance on Friday of the 2nd week. Whether you prefer to be on stage or off, we have the perfect summer adventure for you with art & acting possibilities galore! Limit of 16.

KAYAK CAMP LEVEL 1
(ages 7-11)

July 15-19, 9:30 – 11:30am

Join us for a week of fun & games while learning the basics of paddling. This camp is designed for children who have never paddled before. We will learn how to feel comfortable & safe on the water. We will learn how to paddle efficiently forward, backward & around as we paddle along the shoreline. Limit of 10.

KAYAK CAMP LEVEL 2
(ages 7-11)

July 15-19, 1 to 3pm

Launching from a variety of sites around the Islands. This class is designed for children who have participated in our Level 1 class or who have had paddling experience with level 1 strokes. We will learn more advanced strokes & increase our paddling stamina as we explore the shorelines around the Islands. Our focus is on fun & safety. If your child likes to explore & is comfortable padding, this is the class to choose. Limit of 12.
